The Toiyabe Crest Trail is a long, steep out-and-back route in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated expert. The route is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at the start, and it climbs from about 6,200 feet to a high point of 9,243 feet. The total round-trip distance is about 32.5 miles, with a total gain and loss of about 5,065 feet each way. The North/South Twin Trailhead is the trailhead for this route, and the estimated time for the trip is about 13.5 hours. The climb is most intense at the beginning, with a grade of about 25% at the first 0.11 miles. Several other trails lie within a few miles. North Twin River is about a mile away, and South Fork South Twin River is about 2.7 miles off. The Twin Rivers Connector Trail is about 3.2 miles away, and Columbine Campground is about 7.3 miles away.
