Mt Houghton is an easy out-and-back hike in Nevada's Mt. Rose Wilderness, part of the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route rises about 350 feet from roughly 10,100 feet to a high point of about 10,480 feet, covering about 1.2 miles. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so it works for a short walk or a ride. It stays within the wilderness, and the trip is short enough to fit into a longer day on the surrounding network of trails. The open season runs from June 1 to October 15. The trail is close to several other outings. The Tahoe Rim Trail passes about 0.7 miles away, and the Mt. Rose Peak hike is about 0.8 miles off. Mount Rose Campground is about 2.6 miles away for anyone wanting to stay overnight.
