Tamarack Lake Trail is an out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Carson Ranger District. The route is about 10 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 2,338 feet, and it is rated expert. The trail starts at roughly 8,933 feet and reaches a high point of 9,073 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 0.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 18 percent. The trail is a full-day commitment. Plan on about 4.5 hours for the round trip, and expect the climb to be the most demanding part of the hike. The trailhead sits right next to Mt. Rose Campground, about 0.1 mile away, and the Tahoe Rim Trail passes within 0.2 mile. Mountain bikers can ride the Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Trail and the Lower Meadow Loop, both within a mile. Climbers will find Main Rock about 3.5 miles away.
