Engle Lake is a 7-mile out-and-back hike in Montana's Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, part of the Cabinet Ranger District of Kootenai National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail lies entirely within designated wilderness. The route rises from about 4,950 feet to roughly 6,577 feet, a climb of 1,162 feet one way. The trail is natural-surfaced, and horses are allowed. Bikes are not. Engle Peak sits about a mile from the lake, and Rock Lake is about 2 miles away. For an overnight stay, Lake Creek Campground is roughly 8 miles off. Climbers can head to Ojibway Peak, about 4 miles away.
