The Conasauga River Trail is a hard hike in the Cohutta Wilderness of north Georgia, set within the Conasauga Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests and the Cohutta Wildlife Management Area. The State Department of Natural Resources manages the land, and the trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 2,367 feet to a high point of 3,082 feet, with a total gain of 1,700 feet over the course of the 10.3-mile round trip. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Jasper run to highs around 68°F in April and 69°F in October, while July highs reach about 85°F. That station sits roughly 1,600 feet below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike takes about 4.5 hours. The Chestnut Lead trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Conasauga River and Tear Britches trails are within about 2 miles. For an overnight base, Jacks River Fields Campground is about 4.6 miles off.
