Brasstown Bald is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Blue Ridge Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in north Georgia, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about a mile long, with a total elevation gain of about 450 feet, and it reaches a high point of 4,770 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.28 miles from the start, where the grade reaches 20 percent. The most comfortable time to go is late spring through early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 69°F in May to about 77°F in July, with September easing back to around 72°F. That station sits roughly 1,300 feet below the summit, so temperatures on top run cooler. The hike is open year-round, and the trip takes about half an hour. The Wagon Train Trail starts just 0.1 mile away. Arkaquah and an unofficial trail are both within about 3 miles. For an overnight stay, A.T. Low Gap Shelter is about 6.6 miles off.
