King Boulder is a bouldering area in Connecticut, about 1.8 miles from West Redding. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Queen Boulder and Umpawaug Wall each about 0.1 mile away, and West Side just as close. The area is a cluster of boulders rather than a single climb, and the routes here are all bouldering grades from V1 to V8. The climbing is centered on the boulders themselves, with 12 routes in total. The easiest is Dermal Avenger at V1, and the hardest is Prince of Crimps at V8. The median grade is V5. The routes include Atomic Pleasure at V6 and Crescent Moon at V6+, and I Am Ahab is also at V5. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. The Split Rock Trail and The Lariat are both within a mile for a walk after climbing. Paddlers can head to the Still River, about 4.8 miles away, or the Norwalk River, about 7.2 miles away.
