West Side is a bouldering area in Connecticut, about 1.8 miles from West Redding. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Queen Boulder, Umpawaug Wall and Colossus Boulder all about 0.1 mile away. The area is a cluster of boulders rather than a single route, and the climbing here is all on rock rather than on a wall or a cliff. The bouldering runs the gamut from easy to challenging. Of the 19 routes, 17 are graded on the V scale, with the easiest at V0- and the hardest at V7-8. Some of the named routes include Defender (V0-), Cornerstone (V0), Brix Brax (V2-3) and Warpaint (V7-8). For a change from the rocks, Split Rock Trail and The Lariat are both within a mile. Paddlers can head to the Still River, about 4.8 miles away, or the Norwalk River, about 7.2 miles away.
