Washburn Trail is an easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.2 miles from the town of Ponset. The route is short, covering roughly 0.9 miles with an elevation gain of 119 feet, and it reaches a high point of about 566 feet before descending a little lower. The climb isn't steep, with the steepest stretch at about 10% grade near the halfway mark. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 75°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run a bit cooler. Pad Crag, a climbing area, is about 0.7 miles away, and Wildwood Trail lies about 0.9 miles off. Old Forest Trail is about 1.6 miles away. Paddlers can head to Higganum Creek, about 3 miles from the trail.
