Cockaponset Trail is a 7-mile moderate hike in Connecticut, about 1.6 miles from West Haddam. The route is a point-to-point trail with a total elevation gain of 783 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 4.2 miles in, where the grade reaches 25%. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Bikes and horses are not allowed on this trail. The North Pattaconk Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the South Pattaconk Trail and Old Forest Trail are both within a mile. Climbers can find Pad Crag about 1.7 miles off.
