Old Forest Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.1 miles from West Haddam. The route is 0.46 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 68 feet, and it is rated easy. The trail is a point-to-point route, and the climb is gentle. The steepest part comes at about 0.26 miles in, with an 8% grade. The trail starts at roughly 477 feet and reaches a high point of about 493 feet before descending slightly to around 400 feet. Bikes and horses are both allowed on the trail, according to OpenStreetMap tags. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 84°F. That station sits about 390 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. North Pattaconk Trail and Cockaponset Trail are both about 0.8 miles away, and Pad Crag, a climbing area, is about 0.9 miles off. South Pattaconk Trail is about 1.5 miles away.
