Punch Brook Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.4 miles from the town of Burlington. The route runs point to point for roughly 1.5 miles, so plan on a shuttle or a walk back the way you came. This is a gentle outing with a net downhill trend. Starting near 670 feet, the trail climbs about 180 feet and drops about 300 feet over its length, topping out around 680 feet and bottoming out near 550 feet. Those figures cover the one-way trip from end to end. The steepest stretch comes about half a mile in, where the grade reaches roughly 12 percent. Otherwise the elevation changes are modest. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Burlington put May highs around 70°F and September highs around 75°F. Several other spots sit close by. The Big Dipper mountain biking area is half a mile away. Burlington Fish Hatchery Boulders and the Tunxis Blue-Red South Trail are each about 0.6 miles off. Petro Cliffs offers more climbing about 4 miles away.
