The route is short, about a mile and a quarter, and its point-to-point design makes it a quick outing rather than a loop. The trail starts at an elevation of 853 feet and climbs to a high point of 905 feet before descending to a low of 543 feet. The steepest stretch comes around half a mile in at about 21%, and the total elevation gain is 306 feet. That makes it a gentle walk rather than a serious climb. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Burlington run around 70°F highs in May and 75°F in September, with July peaking near 84°F and January highs around 36°F. That station sits roughly 400 feet lower than the trail's high point, so expect cooler temperatures up top. The Fiske H. Ventres Bird Trail and the Taine Mountain Road Blue Trail both lie about 0.1 mile away, and the Red Trail is within half a mile. For a change of pace, the Burlington Fish Hatchery Boulders climbing area is about a mile off.
