The Tunxis Blue-Red South Trail is an easy hike of about a mile in Connecticut, starting from an elevation of around 820 feet and rising to about 850 feet at its high point. The trail is a point-to-point route, and the climb is modest, with a total elevation gain of 278 feet and the steepest stretch at about 0.7 miles, where the grade reaches 22%. The nearest town is Whigville, about 1.2 miles away. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring and early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Burlington, CT weather station show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 75°F, while July peaks near 84°F. The trail works well as a short outing. Punch Brook Trail and the Blue-Green Trail are both within a mile, and Big Dipper, a mountain biking area, is about 0.9 miles off. For climbing, Burlington Fish Hatchery Boulders sits about 1.2 miles away.
