Anaconda is an easy out-and-back hike in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, about 3.3 miles long with a total elevation gain of 313 feet. The trail runs from a low point of about 4,378 feet to a high of about 4,697 feet, and the Forest Service manages the surrounding land. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show October highs around 79°F with lows near 51°F, and April highs around 75°F with lows near 44°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. The Anaconda Bypass and Arizona Cypress mountain biking routes both start about 0.2 miles away, and the Lizardhead Area climbing area is about 1.3 miles off. For an overnight stay, Crescent Moon Ramada is about 4.4 miles away.
