Tom Bevil

Tom Bevil is a loop hike in Lake Guntersville State Park in northern Alabama, about 3 miles from the park's center. It's an easy walk that climbs roughly 430 feet over a loop route of about 3.3 miles, with a high point of 896 feet and a low of 693 feet. The trail starts at around 789 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 2.6 miles, where the grade reaches 24 percent. The loop makes a straightforward outing, and the climb stays within a few hundred feet for most of the route. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 73°F with lows near 53°F, and April highs around 72°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the high point, so expect temperatures on the top of the loop to run slightly cooler. The Tom Bevill Trail and the Tom Bevill Alternate Trail both start about 0.1 mile away, and the Cutchenmine Trail is about 0.3 mile off.
