Cave is a short, easy hike in Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama, managed by State Park and Recreation. The route is an out-and-back of about 1.5 miles, with a total climb of 420 feet from a low point of 599 feet to a high of 743 feet. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.1 mile in, with a grade of 17 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 73°F with lows near 53°F, and April highs around 72°F. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the ridge run a little cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. King's Chapel Trail and Terrell Trail both start about 0.1 mile away, and Guntersville Roof, a climbing area, is about half a mile off.
