Copperhead is an easy out-and-back hike of about 0.6 miles, with a total elevation gain of roughly 111 feet, that starts about half a mile from the town of Collegedale in Tennessee. The route rises steadily from a low point of 984 feet to a high of 1055 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 0.24 miles in from the start, where the grade reaches 11 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chattanooga show October highs around 74°F with lows near 51°F, and April is similar. That station sits about 384 feet lower than the hike's high point, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The trip takes about half an hour, and several other short hikes sit close by, including Mid Ridge and Krebs Cycle, each about 0.1 mile away. For climbing, Goliath wall is about 0.8 mile off, and paddlers can reach Wolftever Creek about 1.8 miles away.
