Tick Ranch / The Deep is a bouldering area in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with Tick Ranch and the 2) Main Area (John's Slab / Tick boulder) both about 0.4 miles away and 1) East Hillside Zone 1 about 0.5 miles off. The climbing here is all bouldering, with four routes spread across the V1 to V7- range. Razor's Edge is the easiest at V1, and Bastard Crack is the hardest at V7-. The area is best suited to climbers who enjoy bouldering on a small scale, with several named zones within a short distance of one another. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Bend show July highs around 84°F with lows near 49°F and only about two wet days in the month. Winter brings highs in the low 40s and a few snow days each month from December through February. For a change from the rocks, the Western Larch Trail and Ben's are both about a mile away. The Deschutes River, roughly 3 miles off, offers paddling.
