Fire Dome is a climbing area in Oregon, about 1.7 miles from North Umpqua Village. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Secret Cleft and Clock Tower both about 0.1 mile away, so it works well as a base for exploring the cluster of crags in this corner of the North Umpqua. The area has 12 routes, 11 of them sport and one top rope, with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.10d. The easiest is Easy Knot at 5.6, and the hardest is Myst Runner at 5.10d. The climbers behind many of these routes are Greg Orton and Harold Hall, who first ascended several of them in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 84°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-40s and rain on most days. That station sits roughly 1,400 feet lower than the crag, so temperatures at Fire Dome run cooler. The North Umpqua Trail is about 2.5 miles away, and Susan Creek Falls Trail is about 3.2 miles off. Millpond Recreation Site offers camping about 3.8 miles away, and paddlers can head to East Fork Rock Creek, about 6.5 miles from the area.
