Whoops is a hard hike of about 7.6 miles in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a front-loaded climb, starting at about 4,533 feet and peaking at 5,596 feet. The steepest stretch comes around mile 2.7, with a grade of about 11 percent. Bikes are allowed on the natural-surface trail, but horses are not. The total climb is about 1,181 feet, and the route drops back to the starting point. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Sunriver weather station run to highs in the low 80s in July and August, with lows in the low 40s. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures up high run cooler. Pinedrops and Ext are both about 0.1 mile away, and the Power Lines climbing area is under a mile off. Three Creeks Lake Campground is about 9.4 miles away.
