Tumalo Creek is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest in central Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is moderate, with an elevation gain of 175 feet from a low point of about 4,800 feet to a high of about 4,950 feet. The steepest part of the route comes at about 1.5 miles, where the grade reaches 11 percent. The trail is open year-round and is built on natural surface. Bikes are allowed, but horses are not. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Sunriver weather station show June highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F. That station sits roughly 770 feet lower than the high point of the hike, so temperatures up on the trail run cooler. Tumalo Ridge lies just 0.1 mile away, and the West Loop cross-country ski route is 0.2 mile off. Climbers can find Cougar Buttress about 1.2 miles away, and Three Creeks Lake Campground is about 6.8 miles from the trail.
