Tumalo Creek 2 is a hard hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 9.4 miles, with a total elevation gain of 2,484 feet. The climb reaches a high point of 4,589 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 3.9 miles in, with a grade of 15 percent. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June through September. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sunriver run from highs around 72°F in June to about 84°F in July, with September easing back to the mid-70s. That station sits roughly 400 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. The hike is open from June 1 through October 31, and the estimated time is about 4.5 hours. Bikes and horses are not allowed, and the trail surface is natural. The Power Lines climbing area sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Ext, Whoops and Pinedrops hikes are each about a mile off. Three Creeks Lake Campground is roughly 8.7 miles away.
