Wahtum Horse Trail #406H is a short, easy out-and-back route in the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 0.37 miles from the start to the high point, with a total round-trip distance of roughly 0.74 miles and a total elevation gain of about 422 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.26 miles in, with a grade of around 14 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 69 to 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. Wahtum Lake Campground and the Anthill hike both sit about 0.1 mile away, and Eagle Creek Trail is about 0.4 mile off. Ottertail Lake campground is about 0.9 mile away.
