Eagle Benson is a hard hike in Oregon's Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, within the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back of about 5.3 miles, with a total elevation gain of 3,337 feet and a high point of 3,799 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.94 miles in, with a grade of 43 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Government Camp show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on 20 or more days. The trip takes about 3.5 hours. Eagle Creek and Indian Springs are both within about a mile and a half, and Wahtum Lake Campground and Ottertail Lake are about 3.5 to 4 miles away.
