Eagle Tanner is a hard hike in Oregon's Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, within the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back of about 8.9 miles, with a total elevation gain of 2,913 feet and a high point of 3,693 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 3.5 miles, where the grade reaches 41 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Government Camp show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The trip takes about 4.5 hours. Wahtum Lake Campground, about 3.2 miles away, is the closest place to camp. Indian Springs and Indian Mountain are both hikes about 1.2 miles off, and Eagle Creek offers canoeing about 1.8 miles away.
