Tumble Lake is a 2-mile out-and-back hike on natural-surface trail in the Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated moderate, with a total round-trip climb of about 1,715 feet. The route starts near 4,425 feet and reaches a high point of 4,436 feet. The steepest section lies about 0.14 miles in, with a grade of 42%, and the climb is roughly twice as steep on the way up as on the way down. The trail is open from June 1 to October 31, and the trip should take about 1.5 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction run to highs of about 76°F in July and August, and temperatures at the higher elevation of this hike run cooler than those figures. Other outings sit close by. Dome Rock is about half a mile away, Sardine Mountain Trail about 0.9 miles, and French Creek offers canoeing at about 1.7 miles. Detroit Lake State Recreation Area is about 3.7 miles off.
