Trail of Ferns is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Central Coast Ranger District-ODNRA of Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon, about half a mile from the town of Corvallis. The trail is roughly 1.1 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 438 feet, and it reaches a high point of 1,236 feet. The climb is steepest near the start, with a 24% grade at about 0.28 miles, but the route is short enough to fit into a quick outing. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Corvallis show July and August highs around 82 to 83°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-40s and rain on most days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. Blodgett Staircase and Relentless are both about half a mile away, and Collarbone Alley is within a mile. For an overnight stay, Marys Peak Campground is about 4.7 miles off.
