Tamanous is an easy, out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, within the North Bonneville Urban Area (CRGNSA) Special Designated Area. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is about 1.2 miles long, rising from a low point of 105 feet to a high point of 315 feet with a total gain of 418 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.12 miles in, with a grade of 26 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Bonneville Dam weather station show July and August highs in the upper 70s and only four or five wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on most days. The trip takes about half an hour. Eagle Creek Overlook Grp Site and Eagle Creek Overlook are both about 0.6 miles away, and Buck Point is 0.7 miles off. Bridge of the Gods Boulders, a climbing area across the river in Washington, is about 1.5 miles away.
