Buck Point is an easy out-and-back hike of about a mile in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at an elevation of about 330 feet and climbs to a high point of 712 feet, with a total gain of about 540 feet over the round trip. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.24 miles in, where the grade reaches 27%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Bonneville Dam weather station show July and August highs around 79 to 80°F with only four or five wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on most days. That station sits about 650 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the high point run cooler. Eagle Creek Campground is just 0.1 mile away, and the Ruckel Ridge Trail and Eagle Creek Overlook Grp Site are each about 0.3 mile off. Across the river in Washington, the Bridge of the Gods Boulders climbing area is about 2 miles away.
