Wauna Viewpoint is an easy out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 1.2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 1,038 feet, and it reaches a high point of 1,089 feet. The climb is steepest near the start, with a grade of about 22% at 0.32 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Bonneville Dam weather station show July and August highs around 79 to 80°F, with only four or five wet days a month. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. The trip takes about an hour. Eagle Creek Overlook campground is just 0.2 miles away, and Buck Point and Ruckel Ridge Trail are both within a mile. Across the river in Washington, the Bridge of the Gods Boulders climbing area is about 2.3 miles off.
