Schreiner Peak is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Bull of the Woods Wilderness, part of the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface route that starts at about 5,234 feet and climbs to 5,387 feet, with a total round-trip gain of about 2,410 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 42%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F, and the peak sits higher than that station, so expect cooler temperatures on top. Mother Lode lies just 0.2 miles away, and West Lake Way and Dickey Lake Trail are each within about a mile. Elk Lake Campground, about 4.5 miles off, is the closest place to camp.
