Kopetski is an easy out-and-back hike in the Detroit Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest, about 2.7 miles long with a total elevation gain of 856 feet. The trail starts at roughly 2,366 feet and reaches a high point of 2,653 feet, with the steepest stretch around the 1-mile mark, where the grade hits 18 percent. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail's natural surface and lack of accessibility make it a straightforward outing for hikers who prefer to stick to foot traffic. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 75°F with lows near 50°F. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the higher part of the route run slightly cooler. The trip is estimated to take about 1.5 hours. The trail is open from June through October, and the Little North Santiam River paddling route lies just 0.2 miles away. Opal Creek Trail is 0.3 miles off, and Battle Ax Creek offers more paddling about 1.4 miles away. Elk Lake Campground is roughly 3.8 miles from the trail.
