North Umpqua is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Diamond Lake Ranger District of Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 5.8 miles long, with a total climb of 1,704 feet and a high point of 5,374 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 2.5 miles in, where the grade reaches 23%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Chemult weather station show July highs around 83°F with lows near 39°F and only about three wet days. Winter is cold, with January highs around 37°F and lows near 15°F. Tolo Creek and the North Umpqua Trail both start about 0.1 mile away. Tenas Peak and Windigo Pass are each a little over 2 miles off.
