Windigo Pass is a 12-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, within the Diamond Lake Ranger District. The trail is managed by the Forest Service, and its route is natural-surfaced. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 1.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 21 percent. The pass rises to 5,838 feet, and the total round-trip elevation gain is 1,843 feet. For the most comfortable conditions, aim for late summer. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chemult show July and August highs in the low 80s with only two or three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and 13 to 14 wet days a month. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet below the pass, so temperatures up high run cooler. The hike is rated hard, and it takes about five hours to complete. It opens from June 1 to October 31. Kelsay Valley Horse Camp is right at the trailhead, and Kelsay Valley Forest Camp is about a mile away. Tenas Peak and the North Umpqua Trail: Lemlo lie within about a mile and a quarter.
