No Candles is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests in southern Oregon. The trail climbs to about 4,880 feet from a start at roughly 4,748 feet, with a total gain and loss of about 1,158 feet. The most severe climb comes early on, around 0.26 miles from the start, where the grade reaches about 16 percent, and the route is rated moderate. The trail is on natural surface and open to both horses and bikes. The Forest Service manages the land, and the open season runs from June 1 through October 31, with an estimated time of about two hours for the round trip. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Howard Prairie Dam, at a similar elevation, run from highs in the upper 70s in July and August to about 72 in September, with only a few wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and frequent snow from December through February. The Horn Gap Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Potlicker trail lies about 1.3 miles off. Climbers can head to Mt. Ashland's Dream Boulder, roughly 4.3 miles away, and Mt Ashland campground sits about 5.1 miles from the trail.
