Mccubbins 587 is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.8 miles in the Barlow Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises from a low point of about 2,870 feet to a high of about 3,107 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 333 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles, where the grade reaches about 11 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The hike takes about an hour. Mccubbins 588: Mineral Jane lies about 0.4 miles away, and Mccubbins 586 is about 0.8 miles off. For an overnight stay, Mccubbins Gulch campground is about 2 miles away, and Spring Drive RV Campground is about 3 miles away.
