Mccubbins 584 is a 6.7-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, on the Barlow Ranger District. The trail starts at about 2,981 feet and reaches a high point of 3,297 feet, with a total elevation gain of 973 feet over the round trip. The route is rated hard, and the steepest part comes within the first eighth of a mile, where the grade reaches 17%. The trail is natural-surface and is managed by the Forest Service. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July and August highs reach about 69 to 70°F with only around four wet days a month, according to averages from a nearby weather station in Government Camp, which sits higher than this trail. Winter is cold and wet, with typical January highs around 37°F and about 20 wet days. The hike takes about 2.5 hours. Mccubbins Gulch, a campground, and the Barton Loop and Powerline hikes are all within half a mile. Spring Drive RV Campground is about 1.7 miles away.
