Fourmile Lake is a 5.8-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, within the Klamath Ranger District managed by the Forest Service. The route is rated hard, and it's a front-loaded climb, with the steepest stretch at about 0.8 miles and a high point of 5,952 feet. The trail starts at 5,032 feet and rises to 5,952 feet, with a total gain and loss of 1,933 feet over the round trip. The best weather for a summer hike comes in July and August, when typical averages from the Howard Prairie Dam weather station, about 14 miles away and roughly 1,400 feet lower, reach highs near 79°F with lows in the mid-40s. Winters there are cold and snowy, with January highs around 36°F and snow on about nine days. The trip takes about five hours. Aspen Point Campground sits about 0.7 miles away, and the Rye Loop and Billie Creek Nature hike are both within half a mile. For paddling, South Fork Little Butte Creek is about 9 miles off.
