East Fourmile Lake is a hard hike in the Klamath Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest in southern Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 10 miles, with a total climb of roughly 1,680 feet from the low point at 4,978 feet to the high point at 5,775 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 2.7 miles in, with a grade of about 15 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Howard Prairie Dam weather station, about 15 miles away, show July and August highs near 79°F with only two or three wet days a month. That station sits about 1,200 feet lower than the high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. Doe Point Campground is just 0.2 miles away, and the High Lakes Trail #6200 and Varney Creek Snomo are each about 0.3 miles off. Mountain Lakes lies about 1.3 miles away.
