Brown Mountain North is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Klamath Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest in southern Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 4.7 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 872 feet, and it starts at roughly 4,980 feet, reaching a high point of about 5,660 feet. The steepest stretch comes around the 2-mile mark, where the grade reaches about 17%. The trail is a natural-surface route, and it is open to both horses and bikes. It is not an accessible trail. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Howard Prairie Dam weather station, about 13 miles away, show July and August highs near 79°F with only two or three wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days. Aspen Point Campground and Rainbow Bay are both within a mile. The High Lakes Bike Trail and the Hyatt Lake hike are also close by.
