The Edison Snowshoe Long Loop is an easy out-and-back hike of about 3 miles in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at roughly 4,900 feet and climbs to about 4,940 feet, with a total gain of 272 feet over the course of the loop. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles in, with a grade of about 5 percent. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June and September, when typical averages from the nearby Sunriver weather station run from highs around 72°F and lows near 37°F in June to highs around 76°F and lows near 34°F in September. That station sits about 760 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the loop run cooler. The trip takes about an hour. The Light Bulb Loop hike is about 0.4 miles away, and the Direct Current cross-country ski route is about half a mile off. For an overnight stay, Little Lava Lake campground and the Cougar Buttress climbing area are both about 8 miles away.
