Summit East is a 3.2-mile out-and-back hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises from a low point of 7,280 feet to a high point of 8,987 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,771 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 1.1 miles in, where the grade reaches 38 percent. The route is rated moderate, and the trail surface is natural. Bikes and horses are not allowed. The hike is open from April 1 through October 31, and the estimated time is about two hours. The closest neighbors are West Ridge, Rope Tow and Northwest Crossover, all within a mile. For an overnight stay, Soda Creek campground sits about 4 miles away.
