Crane Prairie is a moderate out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Barlow Ranger District. The trail is 2.4 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 976 feet, and it reaches a high point of 4,652 feet. The route starts at about 4,200 feet, and the steepest stretch comes early, with a grade of about 26% at the first 0.1 mile. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Government Camp show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The trip takes about 1.5 hours. Crane Prairie Trail #464 and Camp Windy Trail both lie within a mile. Bonney Meadows campground is about 1.1 miles away, and Badger Lake campground is about 2 miles off.
