Gunsight Butte is a 10-mile out-and-back hike in the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated hard, with a one-way climb of 1,058 feet and a total gain of 2,533 feet for the round trip. The route is natural-surface, and the steepest stretch comes at about 4.2 miles, where the grade reaches 22%. The hike starts around 5,361 feet and climbs steadily to a high point of about 5,947 feet. It's a long, steep outing, so plan for the full day and take a clear route back down.
