East Fork is a hard hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Hood River Ranger District. The trail is about 7 miles long, and the round trip climbs about 2,300 feet, with the high point at 3,651 feet. The route is an out-and-back, and the steepest stretch comes at about 3.9 miles, where the grade reaches 42 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The trip takes about 3.5 hours. The trail starts on natural surface, and the Forest Service manages the land. Nottingham campground is about 2 miles away, and Badger Lake campground is about 2.5 miles away. Pocket Creek Nordic and the Gumjuwac Trail are both within about a mile.
