Notch Trail (Blue) is a 2.1-mile moderate hike in New York, about 0.4 miles from the town of Dutchess Junction. It is a point-to-point route, starting at an elevation of 233 feet and climbing to 796 feet, with a total gain of 447 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.2 miles in, where the grade reaches 24 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at West Point put May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, while July averages about 85°F. That station sits roughly 476 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The trip takes about an hour. Bikes and horses are not allowed on this route. Several other trails lie within a couple of miles, including the Breakneck Bypass Trail (Red), the Cornish Trail and the Undercliff Trail. Storm King Mountain, a climbing area, is about 2.8 miles away.
