Nelsonville Trail is a 2-mile point-to-point hike in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. The trail is rated easy, with a one-way climb of about 700 feet from a low point of 195 feet to a high of 1,059 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles in, with a grade of nearly 47 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at West Point put May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, while July averages about 85°F. That station sits roughly 700 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The Lonestar Trail and Highlands Trail both start within half a mile, and the Washburn Trail is about 0.9 miles away. Storm King Mountain, a climbing area, lies about 2.5 miles off.
