Upper Nambe is an easy hike of about a mile, with a total elevation gain of 222 feet, on a trail that starts and ends at nearly the same point. It is an out-and-back route in the Pecos Wilderness, within the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail is a natural surface path, and it is open to horses. Bicycles are not allowed. The land is managed by the Forest Service, and the route stays within the wilderness area. The climb is gentle, rising from about 10,112 feet to 10,369 feet. The trail is short enough to fit into a single visit, and the Forest Service reports it is open year-round. Nearby, the Winsor Trail (254) and the Nambe Lake route both lie about 0.3 miles away. Aspen Basin campground is about 1.8 miles off, and Big Tesuque campground is about 3.4 miles away.
