Oak Flat is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.6 miles in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 124 feet from a low point of 7,492 feet to a high of 7,681 feet, making it a short and gentle climb. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall stand out. Typical averages from the nearby Sandia Park weather station show May highs around 73°F and September highs near 77°F, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 40s. Other hikes sit close by: Deadman is about 0.1 mile away and the Oak Flat Connector Trail about 0.3 mile. Climbers can head to Block Wall, roughly 2.9 miles off.
